Pulpit Nominating Committee
On
May 30 th
and
31 st,
2008,
Don Clements of
Metokos Ministires
trained members of the congregation on the election and service of a pulpit
nominating committee (PNC).
Hand-outs and recordings for both seminars are available for download. On
Sunday,
June 8 th,
the congregation will vote to adopt guidelines for the
nomination of a pulpit nominating committee and nominate members of the
congregation to serve.
The following Sunday,
June 15 th,
the congregation will elect the committee.
In order to equip and guide the PNC in their search for a pastor, the members
and regular attendees of Hope are asked to fill out two surveys.
These surveys are meant to probe what the ministries and aims of Hope have
been, and what we feel they
should be.
The first survey assesses what Hope has been.
Once these are filled out and handed in, the
second survey will be made available.
The second survey assesses what the congregants feel that
Hope should be.
The first survey was distributed on
June
8
th.
The responses are due back by
June
22
nd.
After the responses to the first survey are gathered, the second
survey will be made available.
Proposed Guidelines for electing a Pulpit Nominating Committee
The following guidelines are adapted from the material provided by
Metokos Ministries and will be presented to the congregation for a vote June 8, 2008.
Given counsel provided by Don Clements and others within the Iowa Presbytery,
RE Shackelford recommends that the congregation adopt the following plan for the
election of a PNC. The congregation will first vote to adopt (or revise) the plan
and then proceed to nominate and elect a PNC.
-
The Pulpit Nominating Committee (PNC) has the sole responsibility for presenting to the
congregation a candidate (or candidates) for full-time gospel minister to serve here at
Hope Evangelical Church.
-
The PNC will conduct its work following the general plan recommended
by Metokos Ministries and with whatever additional assistance from Don Clements it requests.
-
Members of the congregation shall each nominate no more than one member to serve on the PNC.
Though not all members of the congregation are equally well-suited for service on the PNC, every member
of the congregation is eligible to serve and may be nominated.
-
The congregation will nominate members of the PNC during a meeting on June 8.
-
On June 15 the congregation will elect by secret ballot five nominees to form the PNC.
Two alternates elected by the congregation will participate in committee meetings
but will not vote unless as a replacement for a voting member of the PNC who is no longer able
or willing to serve.
-
The congregation will elect by secret ballot a member of the committee to serve as the committee's chairperson.
-
The congregation covenants with the elected PNC to fully support its work, to refrain from requesting information
or attempting to influence the committee or members of the committee except when acting as a congregation in the
context of a congregational meeting, and to pray that God would bless the committee's work and the man God is preparing
to serve here at Hope.
